I decided it was time to put pencil to paper, paper in scanner and stylus to intuos pad and come up with some illustration work. Here’s a sample of the original sketch and the finished product.

Continuing on a theme of sorts, here’s another ceramic and leather crow mask (non-wearable)

I recently bought this gage at the Mourning Market in Seattle and then built the ceramic heart around it. It’s cassius basaltic clay which fires to a nice flat black. I then painted it with acrylicsrusted ceramic heart

I finally got around to creating some new pieces. It helps that a friend has a barn full of free scrap lumber. Both of these pieces are currently at the Matter Gallery in Olympia.

leather maskIf in the land of the blind, the on-eyed man is king, then this is his mask. Made from vegetable tanned leather and hand dyed, stained and distressed, this maks lends an air of creepiness to any event (even weddings and barmitzvahs). I’m on my way now (through cyberspace) to post it on Etsy.

Ages ago I did a ceramic crow mask/ ceremonial kind of thing. It was in a gallery for a long time and recently the gallery changed hands and I got kicked out. So I brought a box full of stuff (art) home. The interesting thing is, that for me, it’s not art anymore. It’s salvage. If I hang on to anything too long, I eventually take it apart and make something else out of it. That being said, here’s a before and after of the crow mask.

Leather mask with taxidermy eyeNot sure where the idea for this came from. It’s kind of a scarecrow/frankenstein thing. It’s the taxidermy glass eye that really gives it that special something. At least that’s what I think. I’ve got two glass eyes left so I’m off to use them!

Leather crow maskJust finished my first consigned mask. It’s nice to know something is already sold while you’re making it. I just picked up a load of my stuff at a gallery in Tacoma that changed hands and then kicked me out. Ouch! I’ll be listing most of it on etsy and some of it I’ll be taking apart and reassembling into something else.

Leather tree maskJust finished working on a tree mask which I will be adding to my Etsy shop tomorrow as soon as I get some better pics. My lesson on this one was change blades in the utility knife more often. Blades are cheap. I’m trying to come up with some designs that I haven’t seen all over the place, although, I have to admit I enjoy making leaf masks as much as the next guy. I’m done with copper clay until I order some more so I’ll probably make more mask for awhile. If I could only stay focused on one thing….
